Definition The concept of "indenture" applies to a document establishing a hierarchical labour relationship between two actors for a fixed period of time, in which one actor rents another actor's workforce in return for food and lodging, as well as a balloon sum of money which is to be paid out at the end of the fixed period. The money can also be paid in advance, e.g. in the form of a ship's passage, meaning that the indenture can also take the form of a debt relationship.en
