||The concept "personal or institutional archive" refers to collections of letters, papers and other documents and objects possessed by an individual actor. Especially important is that these papers etc. were intended to be preserved as a collection or archive, i.e. they were not preserved in a group by chance. An example of this is e.g. a merchant or a ship's captain transporting all his paperwork from one place to another, and this personal archive being confiscated upon capture.
